Opening Saturday 14 July (3-5pm)
Exhibition: 14 July - 5 August 2007
Rascals of Ramingining is an exhibition featuring animals and other creatures that have been hand made from “bush materials”. These materials include pandanas, paperbark and earth pigments used to colour the creatures. Most objects have been made by a family of women from Malayanganuk, an outstation about an hours drive out from Ramingining along a scrabbly bush track. All creatures in the show are all rascals in their own way. Some are pigs that are feral and foreign to these parts, which cause desecration to the bush and waterholes, other creatures are cheeky bandicoots and various species of fish, all of which provide “bush tucker” for the ladies and their families. There is even a “baby devil” with a goony grin who hides in the bushes ready to cause mischief to the unaware. Produced from October last year to the present, these rascals will delight the audience with their cheeky looks. |
