In January of 2008 I began taking apart the tableau and collage work I had been doing and rethinking form to a greater degree than before.
As I did this I began to incorporate discarded packaging and wood more completely into my work, something I had been interested in doing for some time. With the limitations on form imposed by the use of these materials, came more possibilities for the evocative use of colour in the work. I began to focus more on mixing my own colours intuitively ; gestures became more exposed.
The idea of using discarded objects as metaphors for human nature and nature itself had become resonant for me in visits to new york, and the landscape of the city continues to be an inspiration living near the cbd in Melbourne.
