“One Hundred Metres of Steel” is the first piece of large sculpture made in my newly built studio an hour north of Melbourne.
After amassing the necessary equipment I bought a hundred metres of steel. Using solar power and a generator to run the heavier equipment, work began.
Inspired by a vast indoor and outside space this is the first in a series of big scale sculptures.
The structure is a visually-diffused plane constructed in 25mm rolled hollow section steel which is mig. welded.
It employs colour as well as a multitude of directions and varying lengths of metal.
The result is a vibrant barrier with a perimeter that is difficult to discern.
The smaller plywood works are made with a router.
They display a feast of surfaces finished in multiple coats of lacquer.
