Brought up in the outback of Australia Janno grew up with a big sense of space and nature. Strong colour, layering of textures and the need for decoration have always been there in her life and art.
Many trips to India, Nepal and other countries of the sub – continent highlighted the contrast of colour against earth.
Since graduating from RMIT fine art in 1994, Janno has spent most of her time living away from Australia between New York and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Working as a professional artist, Janno brings to the canvas a rawness of colour using metaphors to convey hope, optimism and resilience. She is intrigued by the notion of ‘Out of place’ (displaced on a personal, environmental and cultural level and of fitting in).
Returning to Argentina in 2006, Janno has been able to further explore these themes through her work and in the slums of Buenos Aires where she has started a ‘grass roots’ community arts project.
