Rail Song’ is a piece combining video, animation, painting and music. Consisting of five screens in the same space, each showing a short film with its own soundtrack set to loop. Each film has its own voice and its own length which lets Rail Song only repeat once every 1500+ years. The separate voices (instruments) combine in a beautiful jagged stumbling harmony however they fall. The result is a constantly changing intriguing song beast that moves visually and audibly! Mick Turner is a member of the remarkable instrumental band, Dirty Three and some of the footage in this piece was taken whilst on tour with the band. Rail Song will be presented in a brand new arts space at BRIGHTSPACE, for the moment dubbed, Dark Space.
