Maggie Diaz Photography Prize for Women 2017

Congratulations to the 2017 Winner: Isaebella Doherty for her portrait “Pearl”
The prize celebrates the life of American-born Maggie Diaz, who came to Australia in 1960 and became one of Australia’s foremost women photographers.
After receiving 318 amazing entries and selecting 53 finalists, which now grace the walls of BRIGHTSPACE (St Kilda) we are looking forward to announcing the prize winner on Friday the 1st of September.
“We are so proud of every woman who submitted a photograph in 2017.  The judges selected 53 works that they wanted to see hung on the walls at BRIGHTSPACE and now installed, collectively they tell an amazing story.  The “Maggie Diaz” is a unique prize, it’s a modest award that invites all to enter.  The winner has to be a woman, use available light, impress that judges with  compelling content and display a bit of “Maggie” flair. “ Kylie Greer
The Prize is supported by Melbourne director, Tony Rogers (Director of TV show Wilfred) and Producer Jason Byrne (Guilty Content).
“In 2015 Kylie Greer of BRIGHTSPACE asked me to put her in contact with the right people at the advertising agency Clemenger’s, as Maggie did some work for them in the 70’s. She had a proposal for them to sponsor the Prize.  Jason and I thought it was such a good idea, it didn’t go any further and we put up the 5k.  If this prize inspires, that is all we want”. Tony Rogers

The MDPPfW is the initiative of BRIGHTSPACE, St Kilda which administers and hosts the exhibition of shortlisted works and the prize giving. The judging panel includes celebrated photographers: Hoda Afshar, Robert Imhoff and Julie Millowick.
